Peony Post Card

Prized Peony is clearly going to be one of my favorite sets from the 2020-2021 SU! Annual Catalog! It's form + function = my shabby style.  The central image of this card is based on a peeled wallpaper treatment using designs from the Peony Garden and In Good Taste DSPs.  The key to really making the peeled wallpaper work is to sponge the edges of both sides of the "wallpaper" layers, then splitting and rolling edges to give it that aged/shabby look.

The Post Card is a sadly retired set, but I like to pull it out from time to time, because it's so versatile.  In this instance, everything is stamped using Gray Granite ink.  The left side of the post card is filled with text from Very Versaille, and the right with a sentiment from Prized Peony. The flowers themselves are stamped in Gray Granite, then watercolored with Petal Pink and Flirty Flamingo, fussy cut, and arranged around the edge of the post card.  The centers of the flowers are touched with Wink of Stella in gold.

I'm still in my current love affair with the Ornate Borders dies, outlining everything - I can't help it!  The flourish in the upper right is cut from the Beautifully Detailed Laser-Cut DSP, which is the most devilish thing to work with, EVER!  The effect is worth it, though.  The pearls are from a big bag of champagne colored pearls that I got from somewhere.  Stampin' Up!, if you're listening, please put some of these in your catalog!!!

For my Pappou....

First off,  let me please say that I love this set from the new SU! Annual Catalog, Prized Peony! Soft, loose, old-fashioned florals are always my thing.    I got my box of new stuff from the new Annual Catalog on a one-day, but, unfortunately, my father had been suffering from a long illness and was near ending.  I took my box with me, thinking I might have some time between shifts, but I didn't. I watercolored the central image and got the first two central layers done. He liked what I'd done, but I couldn't make the borders work -- they had to be trimmed by a very steady hand.  At that point, the last thing I had was a steady hand, so I cleaned it all up and put it back in the box.

We buried my Pappou last Saturday and I finished the card on Monday.  I would like to think that he would have liked the finished product

Pappou, this card is for you.  The world has a big hole in it where you used to be, and the world seems much less bright without you in it.

I love you!

All layers of the Peony Garden DSP were backed with Grey Granite card stock.  Borders cute from Ornate Borders dies were pieced just inside the edges of the Grey Granite edges.

I made this card for my daughters birthday.  If you knew her, you'd know that this mouses' pose is just like her -- even if she's turning 23!  I love, love, LOVE this paper from the Flowers for Every Season DSP -- it's so fabulously retro.

The only odd bit, is the textile.  The base is the White woven ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season ribbon combo, then Flirty Flamingo ruched ribbon.  For the center, I couldn't find a Poppy Parade ribbon that would work, so I cut a piece of Poppy Parade card stock with the little circle border from the Ornate Borders dies.  I cut it once, then reversed the die and cut over it again so that I could get the "beaded" border on both sides.

Sunflowers on Boardwalk

This card was a bit like bringing forth a baby -- so many pieces that took so long to put together!    The big take away from this card is that for the large sunflower, I first cut the sunflower out of Honey Bee using the Sunflower dies, then I sponged Pumpkin Pie onto the Old World Paper 3D embossing folder, than put the Honey Bee die cut in the folder and ran in through my Big Shot.  The result was a rough, crumpled bit of texture -- love it!  Putting on a lacy over-cut of the sunflower over top of the crumpled base really gives it a cool look.  In addition, the smaller sunflower, vines and the large background pieces of leaves are die cut, then run through in the folder.

The center of the large sunflower is a small piece of Cinnamon Cider run through the Tin Tile embossing folder.  I cut out one of the central "starbursts," cut it out, then mounted it in the center of the sunflower on Dimensional, running my nail around the edges to "tuck" it under the outer part of the center -- which I've layered about 1,000 SU! earth toned beads (retired).

The sentiment is taken from Good Morning Magnolia and die cut with the double-ended banner from the new Tasteful Labels dies (love!).  The border on the two larger pieces of DSP is my current fav, the small dots border from Ornate Borders dies.
